James Rabbit began in Fresno, CA as a compulsive solo recording venture by Tyler Martin to fill afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and summers. Tyler now lives in Santa Cruz, CA, where, armed with keyboards, guitars, basses, horns, more keyboards, and multi-tracking software, he continues to sculpt pop recordings in his bedroom, with contributions from friends in the Santa Cruz music community.
In addition to the heart of the band—which is comprised of brother, Conner Martin, on drums; fellow Fresno native, Max Bennett-Parker, on keyboards and vocals; Thor Andersen on bass and vocals; and video artist, Jamie Burkart, on vocals and percussion—James Rabbit performances and recordings feature contributions from a revolving cast of musicians that includes John Acquadro (Goodbye the Band), Rachel Williams (Birds Fled from Me, Bedroom Eyes), Raya Heffernan (Bedroom Eyes), solo artist Richard Caceres, Libby Hendon, Spencer Owen, Mike Rekeviks (The Wonder Boys, Mahoram Atta, Fell Voices), Peter (Sheena).
The band plays shows often in the booming Santa Cruz DIY music scene. They've recently shared the stage with Jeffrey Lewis, World Inferno/Friendship Society, and others.
