New Release!

$1000
A breakthrough. This is the moment where everything suddenly clicks, and he proves himself capable of realizing his often ambitious ideas, and filling out a 51 minute album with consistently catchy, thoughtful, and inventive music. [...] Coloratura concerns itself with t]he importance of making connections and the value of friendship[...] a topic so rarely written about in a way that isn't totally trite.

Kresge Food Co-Op Benefit

We're playing at the Kresge Food Co-Op's "Fuck The IRS" party at the Kresge Townhall this afternoon. It's going from 5PM-8PM. Bands: James Rabbit, Blackbird Raum, Man is not a Machine, All Holes Filled, Schwobie and the French.

Since 2006 the Kresge Food Co-Op has unknowingly been racking up a per day fine for a form that was forgotten. Suddenly their bank account was frozen, all their checks bounced, and it was discovered that they owe thousands of dollars. Come help save Santa Cruz's only food co-op. Donate $2, or more if you can.

No longer any pressure to be smart or graceful

James Rabbit about to board a bus, about to leave Santa Cruz for New York. We're back from New York. It was a blast visiting old friends, meeting new people, and playing music. Spencer came along, and Libby came out from New Orleans to meet us. We recorded a live session for PRI's Fair Game; played a couple shows; and racing down the streets of Brooklyn, performed our songs a capella to the pockets of people we passed by.

James Rabbit on PRI's Fair GameOver at Fluxblog, Matthew Perpetua has posted a review of one of our shows and an MP3 of one of the tracks we performed for Fair Game. Head on over there and download it.

If you can't make it to that show, we're playing the next night in Santa Rosa in a barn with Jeffrey Lewis once again. At both shows we will have copies of Coloratura available.

These past few days:

Marcello Carlin wrote about Coloratura (I spent Friday blushing). Copies are still available by emailing me and giving me some money or coming to a show. Our next show may be in Oakland on the 23rd, or it may be somewhere else sooner.

Saturday was beautiful, the temperature was a perfect blend of sun and not-quite spring. I stumbled upon a monarch butterfly migration festival at the Natural Bridges state park. There was an octet of rangers and volunteers who sang beautifully about whaling and oil spills. Their name was the 5M band, which stood for The Mostly Mediocre Migrating Mariposa Monarchs (or something similar).

Last night we played a show at Caffe Pergolesi, it was fantastic. Our friend Amory digitally captured it and it is available to view online. Check it out!

The show will be unstoppable, and there will be free copies of Coloratura for all! We're expanding forward in every dimension! Jay-Z is appearing to me in dreams and guiding me, you won't be let down!
